4.4.16: Ask for it

April 4, 2016

As hippy dippy as it sounds, I really do believe that we can call things into our life.

The Secret, Guardian Angel, The Universe, God, ... whatever you wanna call "that force" ... I have witnessed several instances where I felt I have manifested jobs, items, money, etc into my life.

This isn't to say I chanted, "I want a math teaching job" and then went and sat on the couch and waited for it to find me...oh no. The summer out of college, I addressed and sent cover letters and resumes to every single job posting I found online, and THEN to every single school district in the county I lived, just in case.

And while there were very few jobs posted, I went on 5 interviews, and each time the job was "better" - from a tutor, to part-time sub (twice), to full-time sub to eventually a full-time teaching gig in a top district in the county.

Ultimately, it wasn't the best fit for me, but I was able to get my feet on the ground and make some money my first few years out of school..and I learned a lot and made lifelong friends at this position.

Here's another example.

My husband and I spent our first year of marriage 1000 miles away...I was teaching in PA and he was playing golf in FL. I hated it. It wasn't in an ideal position for me, and I didn't even have a husband to come home to at night. It was hard.

I decided I would take a year off and get my Master's degree online so I could live with him. As that year was rounding out, I was starting to panic. What was I going to do the following year? I needed job flexibility to work from home if I wanted to continue living together (we travel around, A LOT).

I talked about it. I brainstormed with my mom, talked to my husband, searched all over the Internet for jobs I'd be qualified for...it was a full-time job looking for a full-time job!

Miraculously, a woman I coached cheerleading for in a previous teaching job text me and said "Hey, we need a Keystone teacher for PA Cyber. Can you send me your resume today?" Boom. Sent over my stuff and within 2-3 hours, I had a full-time job teaching online!

I have to admit, sometimes it freaks me out when it works out like this!

I can think of so many more examples.

But what stays consistent across these instances is HOW I behave around what I want to happen. I talk about it, write about it, think about it, work for it...and I am not afraid to ask for it.

And sometimes I'm shut down, but when I look back on the journey of my life, I realize it was a deliberate NO. I realize that what I wanted to happen would not have been the best answer at that time.

So here's an action step. What do you really want to happen? What NEEDS to happen?

ASK FOR IT.

I actually think writing about it has been the most beneficial. I write it on my to-do list, in a journal, on my planner...whenever it is a consistent reminder so I keep it in the forefront of my mind. This will help you take the proper steps towards that goal.

That's it for this week!

Busy week ahead for me!! We are moving to Tampa on Saturday and we just signed the lease last Saturday! (PS This was another example ;) We got an apartment that is super cool, unique, and different...and brand new!) While I am so excited for our super cool warehouse loft, I'm anxious to get everything packed and ready to go!

Have a great week, friends!

xx, kate
