IN THIS EPISODE: Welcome to The Ladies Dish Podcast!

Catching Up (1:00) Joy & Kate will be traveling to Austin for Paleo f(x) when this airs. We want to do a fun recap podcast, so stay tuned for that!

Kate tried Piperwai deodorant, too and verdict is...She loves it! Now we need to get Dana on board to be able to give it an official Ladies Dish stamp of approval.

Interview Game Question (5:31) Memorial Day is coming up...which means summer is right around the corner! What songs do you like to listen to during the sunny summer days?

Joy loves ANYTHING Jack Johnson but also LFO’s Summer Girls

Kate and her hubby love Pontoon ("up on a roof" or “a Bonaroo"? lol).

Dana loves country too and her pick is Zak Brown Band. Shout out to Toes in the Water.

What’s Cookin’? (8:38)

Dana shares one of her go-to eats recently…Gluten Free BLT. Customize it and put in what you like! Dana likes to add cheddar. Get her recipe here!

Joy recommends avocado. Always avocado, friends!

Today’s Show (11:28)

We’re covering carbs, blood sugar & nutrition…hold onto your hats, ladies!

1. How many carbs should someone consume in a day? (12;13)

You’ll find that the information out there on this is alllllll different. So ideally, its what feels best FOR YOU.

These are recommendations from 21DSD; when people feel burnout or tired on the detox, it’s because they have accidentally gone too low carb because they removed grains, but forgot to replace them with fresh veggies and fruit.

2. What does 100 grams of carbs look like in terms of food for the day? Can you give some examples? (19:30)

Remember 1 g of carbs = 4 calories. So 100g x 4 = 400 calories of carbs in this example!

We thought it would be fun to look at two different “diets” of 100 grams of carbs:

Don’t forget to process a carb in your body – you need 8 different micronutrients (magnesium is a big one!) and real foods come packaged (thanks, Mother Nature!) with all the nutrients you need to actually utilize these amazing nutrients in our bodies!

3. What fruits should you eat and how much of them? (25:40)

4. Can you share your opinions about the number of meals to be eating in a day? 2-3 or 5-6? What are your thoughts? (28:33)

Kate gives A LOT of great info for this question – have a listen!

At the end of the day, remember this: Eat when you’re hungry Eat well rounded, nutritious meals!

Quick thoughts on Blood Sugar & Weight Loss (37:20)

“If you are packing on pounds, especially around your midsection, it’s time to think about what you are eating and how you are managing your blood sugar!”

You have to learn how to create a balanced plate including carbs, fats and proteins...we are definitely NOT saying to remove carbs because carbs play a critical role in our body, but we are saying that you can’t choose processed and refined carbs or eat MOSTLY carbs because you will set yourself up for the spikes and dips.
